Lectures, with speakers Neil MacGregor, Irving Finkel, Matthew Stolper and John Curtis

24 June 2010
18.00 - 19.00

BP Lecture Theatre, The British Museum, Great Russell Street, London, WC1B 3DG

An hour of lectures reporting on the discoveries and conclusions of a 2-day workshop.

Organised by
The British Museum
Supported by
Workshop and lectures jointly sponsored by the British Museum and the Iran Heritage Foundation.

Introduction

Two tablet fragments that duplicate the text of the cylinder and add important new information have been identified in the British Museum. In addition, recent work on the two Chinese 'cuneiform bones' which have usually been seen as forgeries has established that they are, on the contrary, ancient copies of an otherwise unknown fragmentary duplicate of the Cyrus inscription. After a closed two-day academic workshop about new discoveries concerning the Cyrus Cylinder, the British Museum and the Iran Heritage Foundation will present a public lecture reporting on the discoveries and conclusions of this workshop.
